Morepork owners Rosemary and Phil Minehan first planted Pinot Gris vines in their small single variety vineyard in 2006 with further plantings in 2007 and 2010 making a total area of less than one hectare.

The vineyard takes its name from the resident Morepork or Ruru a small brown native New Zealand owl that keeps nocturnal watch over the vineyard while Ruru our speedy little cocker spaniel does the day shift keeping pests at bay.

We are very passionate grape growers focused on producing top quality fruit that is selectively handpicked and whole bunched pressed.  The wine is made locally at Marsden Estate by Rod McIvor and his dedicated team whose skills have helped us produce award winning Pinot Gris since the first vintage in 2009.

Our north facing sunny site on free draining volcanic loam produces a fleshy and rich Pinot Gris with good concentration of vibrant peach, pear and spicy flavours in an off dry style with a well balance finish.
